I've been part of the student body at AFJ for three years now. As an adult learner, I was looking for a school that encompassed more than just the "technical a, b, c's" and, at AFJ, I found what I was looking for. Small group classes with an abundance of verbal interaction (paired equally with the necessary grammatical teachings!), classes are sprinkled with French culture, excursions and interactive teaching aids in a warm, friendly, relaxed, fresh and modern environment. All teachers, both past and present, have been simply incredible! I joined an AFJ immersion trip to Corsica last year and it was a brilliant experience. I’ve been attending weekly classes at A French Journey for almost two years and my French language skills have certainly improved. I have been a student at My French Journey with Nathalie since 2022 and I have loved every minute of it. It's a welcoming school with many classes that supports your language training. What I love about it is that it integrates additional social events (book clubs, aperitif, movie and theatre nights) and experiences where you learn more about French language, history and culture. Every class also starts with coffee and a piece of cake. (What's not to love about that?) Now into its new phase with Maëve, I look forward to continuing and broadening my French language skills. Who knows maybe one day soon, I can also travel on one of the immersion trips away.

Face-to-face in Hampton or online on Zoom, at every level from complete beginner to advanced. Your lessons follow what you want to do in French, and they go well beyond grammar into the culture, history, art, food and music behind it.
Adult Group
Small groups from beginner to advanced: grammar, conversation and travel French, in person or online. $55 for a 90-minute class, with no enrolment fee.
Teens
Middle school and high school groups, plus VCE, IB and DELF preparation, built around the school curriculum. Up to six students per group, in the studio or online. $60 for a 60-minute class.
Private Lessons
One-to-one with a native French teacher, at your pace and aimed at your goal: an exam, a trip, a work move. $90 an hour. Or bring a friend: two-on-one lessons are $65 each an hour, with almost the same attention and far more comfort than a big group. In person or online.
Online Group Lessons
Small groups over Zoom, from home or anywhere you are. Groups are small on purpose, four to eight adults and four to six teens, the same as in the studio, so every student gets a more personal, more interactive class. New for Term 4, which began on 5 October. Ideal when the Hampton studio doesn't fit your week. See the online group classes.

I’ve been attending weekly classes at A French Journey for almost two years and my French language skills have certainly improved. I felt more confident speaking French on my recent trip to France and enjoyed being able to communicate more easily with the locals.As importantly, I enjoy my classes and have met a group of friendly fellow students who support and laugh with each other as we learn.Since the recent change of ownership to Maeva, I’ve also seen a number of improvements in terms of the physical environment of the school- it is now a bright and comfortable learning space.I look forward to my classes each week and our teacher, Virginie, helps us to have fun even when the content is “difficile”.

I have been a student at My French Journey with Nathalie since 2022 and I have loved every minute of it. It's a welcoming school with many classes that supports your language training. What I love about it is that it integrates additional social events (book clubs, aperitif, movie and theatre nights) and experiences where you learn more about French language, history and culture. Every class also starts with coffee and a piece of cake. (What's not to love about that?) Now into its new phase with Maëve, I look forward to continuing and broadening my French language skills. Who knows maybe one day soon, I can also travel on one of the immersion trips away.

What makes our school different
A small Hampton school built on patience, real conversation and a love of French culture.
Classes built around what you actually want to say.
Our classes are built around what you actually want to do in French: order at a café, hold your own at a dinner table, watch a film without subtitles, pass a DELF exam, talk shop on a work trip. Whatever the goal, we shape the lessons around it.
Studio groups of four to eight, with a native French teacher and a curriculum that goes well beyond grammar drills. Each week mixes language with culture, food, regional traditions, politics, film and music, so what you learn is what you'd actually hear said.
Come to our studio at 567 Hampton Street, on the Bayside train line, or join an online group from home. Online groups are separate from the studio ones and the same size, so they stay small and interactive. Ask Maëva which suits your week.
